Rain brings smiles to almost everyone’s face. The tiny raindrops never fail to make a hot day beautiful. The inspiration of this piece came from my favorite place in the house – the west side window. Sun set lights and my hanging rainbow piece kept provoking my thoughts to make something more. Click on the link to check ‘My rainbow hanging’. http://chimingwindow.net/2017/08/21/my-rainbow-hanging/
Sharing my joy of creating something unique.
List of items required to make this
- 2 Wooden rings 8″ – 1pc; 6″ – 1pc OR ice cream sticks/wooden craft sticks – I used ice cream sticks and 8″ ring.
- Colorful rainbow yarn or thick thread.
- Hot glue gun4.Glass marbles – White transparent or light blue. I used faded pink color marbles since i wanted to unicycle these.5. Transparent nylon thick thread –6. Glue
Lets start the process –
a) Lay the wooden sticks in a hexagon shape. you can do it freehand or use a template. Use glue on the joints to make the shape. Use a layer of 3 sticks for each side.
P.S. If you are using a ring to make this project, then you can skip the above step.
b) Start wrapping the colorful yarn/ thick thread on the hexagon shape or wooden hoops. Yarn should be wrapped tightly and closely without any overlapping or gaps in-between. In the beginning, tuck the loose end of the yarn under the wrapped yarn. In the end, seal the loose end with the glue.
I chose to wrap rainbow colored yarn on the bigger shape and smaller one in white, representing rainbow and clouds respectively.
c) Prepare the 2nd wooden hoop as well. Wrap the thread and seal the end with glue.
d) Each joint of hexagon shape will work as marking to attach the smaller hoop to it.
If you are using hoop then it can be divided in 6 equal parts for marking.
e) Cut 6 threads of 8″ each. Use these yarns to tie the smaller hoop to the hexagon shape/ 8″hoop.
f) Cut the nylon thread in following lengths – a) 18″ – 3 ; b) 16″ – 3; c) 14″ – 3; d) 12″ – 3. On hexagon shape, tie the nylon thread in the center of each side, as marked in the below image. On the smaller ring, tie the nylon thread on the same markings which are used to tie the smaller ring with the hexagon shape. Refer the below image for easy understanding.
All the lengths of the nylon threads should be randomly ties without any ascending or descending order.
g) Points of the hexagon shape will be used to tie the hanging loops to the hexagon shape/ 8″ hoop. Cut 3 thread of 18″ each. 2 ends of each thread should be tied at the opposite points of the hexagon shape/ 8″hoop. These 2 ends should fall in straight line after tying.
All the 3 threads should pass through the 1″ metal loop. It will be used to hang the decor pc.
h) With the help of hot glue gun, stick the glass marbles to already tied nylon threads. These marbles can be evenly spaced out on each thread.
