SINGLE CROCHET SEAM – (WITH HOOK)
SC seam (Single crochet) is good for joining straight edges. It is less bulky than the slip stitch seam. It can be used not only on the wrong side but also on the right side of the garment as decorative feature. Work the seam in the contrast color to make a decorative statement.
- Row by row (sides) : For concealed seam, place the pieces to be joined together with right side facing. For decorative seam, place the pieces with wrong side facing. Pin the layers together. Holding the yarn behind the work , insert the hook through both layers of fabric and work a row of single crochet stitches close to the edge. Space the stitches so that the work remains flat without stretching or puckering.
Refer below images for better understanding.
2. Stitch by stitch (eg. upper or lower edges) : Place the pieces to the joined together with wrong side facing and edges aligned. Pin the layers together. Holding the yarn behind the work insert the hook through corresponding stitches on both layers and work a row of single crochet stitch along the edge.
